A Love Letter to Carbs

Dear Carbs,

Oh how I love you, even though you are so misunderstood! We’re made out to think that if we eat you, we’ll gain weight. But I know that’s not the case. I know gaining weight only comes from eating more calories than my body needs.

I know you’re the main source of energy. I know brain fog is a real thing and that means I need to eat more of you. After all, I know my brain relies on you to function, and you know I could use all the brain power I could get! I know that without you, Carbs, my muscles wouldn’t have the energy to lift the weights I want to lift. And you know I want to lift all the weights!

I know you’re also the quickest source of energy. Who doesn’t love a sweet, juicy piece of fruit, or even some gummy bears, from time to time?! I know I could eat some berries and instantly feel energized!

But I also know that you also have a more complex side to you. Allowing me to have sustainable energy throughout my long runs or my high intensity workouts. What would I do without quinoa and sweet potatoes? I know this is where I get the majority of my micronutrients too.

You’re everywhere, Carbs. I can’t go out without seeing you </3 You’re in all my favorites - berries, wine, carrots, chocolate. Oh, now I’d never not enjoy you!

I know some people can have more Carbs than others, I just wish everyone could appreciate you the way you deserve to be. But I know your time in the light is coming soon..

You’re feared now, but give it time. Your time is coming. In a few years, you'll be shining bright again! Then everyone won’t stop talking about how wonderful you truly are!  Just look at how much hype surrounds fat now! Let’s not forget how much everyone hated/feared/demonized fat in the 80s & 90s!

I know you aren’t the enemy, and I know you’re just as important as fat & protein. Hang in there, your time will come soon enough!

Loving you forever & rooting for you always,

Veronica
