5 Tips for De-Stressing Your Life

Nowadays, you can’t help but to be stressed out, every day seems to throw a new challenge at you.

Trying to navigate the day-to-day can be difficult, but this blog can give you new ideas to help de-stress for good!

Sometimes it can be hard to feel like you deserve rest and relaxation, but you do. Let’s try some of these tips out together to de-stress our lives one step at a time!

Take your first steps to relaxation…

1.    Take Time to Try 5-Minute Journaling

Journaling is a great way to get your thoughts out of your head and into the world.

Sometimes that is the most difficult part of the day, just keeping all of your thoughts organized.

Journaling allows you to write it all out so you can clear your head and prioritize!

I use journaling as a means of escape. Sometimes reading my own thoughts makes me realize the answer to my current situation was right in front of me all along.

For you, journaling may help you express your emotions when you may not have anyone to speak to at that moment.

2.    Do Some Yoga or Stress-Releasing Stretching

Yoga has quickly become a popular form of exercise. Not only does it promote a healthy lifestyle but it allows you to get up and move in a relaxing way.

Sometimes the best medicine IS movement. Allowing yourself some time to get up and stretch can help your muscles to release tension.

This is something you can even do at work! If you have been sitting all day at your desk sometimes standing for a 10-minute stretch is just what you need to get the day back on track.

Yoga and stretching can also give you some alone time to relax and recharge. Carving out time for yourself in your day-to-day life can significantly increase your mental clarity.

Stretching also increase your flexibility, making your body overall feel better and less tense.

When you set aside time for yourself, it gives your body the time it needs to decompress.

I know that when I have long days at my desk, stretching always resets my brain and gives my mind and body the motivation it needs to finish out the day.

3.    Take a Meditation Break

Some people can be intimidated by meditation. But meditation can be easy!

While there ARE different kinds of meditation, it can be as simple as closing your eyes for 5 minutes and focusing on your breathing.

Similar to yoga, meditating allows you to have time to yourself to unwind and decompress which can help you regain focus in stressful situations.

Meditation focuses on your breathing which can help regulate your body and make you aware of your surroundings when you feel mass chaos coming on.

Many use meditation to help ground themselves back to Earth, and come back to the reality of their day.

Meditation can be used to help focus on your body and the way that it is feeling internally to make needed changes.

Try focusing on one part of your body at a time. Start with your toes, then your feet, your legs, all the way up to your head, one by one. As you think of each part of your body, focus on relaxing it as you pass it by.

You will be surprised how relaxed you feel afterward!

4.    Go for a Walk or Sit in Nature

This may be my favorite form of de-stressing!

Getting outside in the sunshine always warms my spirits. Not only that, but the fresh air is good for helping me clear my head when I feel like I have too many thoughts at once.

Walking while outside is just an added bonus!

The sun provides our bodies with Vitamin D which is essential to daily living and can boost your immune health.

In addition, the sun helps to boost your serotonin which is the chemical in your body that helps to improve your mood.

Even in the winter, the crisp air can help to heighten your senses and once again help you to ground yourself back into reality.

Even though this may be the oldest trick in the book, you can’t help but see its benefits!

5.    Self-Care Night!!

Second, to walking outside, self-care is one of my go-to de-stressing activities.

After a long day at work, I love nothing more than to come home and curl up on the couch with some junky reality TV to unwind.

I like to take self-care night to the next level with a hot shower and my favorite comfort foods.

Try taking yourself out to a nice dinner and picking out a movie or good book to read when you get home.

Have a spa night, with a manicure and a pedicure, or get a massage.

Self-care doesn’t have to be that in-depth.

Sometimes what your body needs is some REST. It is okay to just take the rest of the night off and not do anything else.

You’re ALLOWED to do that! Listen to your body and what it is asking you for.

I hope that these tips help to reduce stress in your life and feel more comfortable taking time for yourself!
