The Night Routine That Will Give You Better Sleep

Morning routines, they’re all the rage… But what is less talked about is the importance of having a routine at night, so we’re going to dive into it here. So sit back, relax, and get yourself ready for your perfect night’s sleep!

Benefits of a Night Routine

It Signals Your Body

Having a night routine signals your body that sleep is soon coming. This helps get the right sleep hormones following, allowing you to fall asleep faster and stay asleep longer!

Creates/Strengthens Self Discipline

Anytime you stick to a routine or ritual, your self discipline strengthens. Especially on nights when you feel so exhausted you just want to plop into bed fully clothed. But taking that extra 5 or 10 minutes to brush your teeth, wash your face, or read a chapter of a book strengthens your discipline even more! Which then can carry over to all over aspects of your life!

You Get Better Sleep

Your routine signals your body that sleep is upon it, which turns into better quality sleep!

It’s Extra Time You Get to Spend on Yourself

We are pulled in so many different directions, all day long. Treat yourself to these few precious moments when you get to unwind, relax, and just be by yourself!

How to Create the Perfect Night Routine

Just as no two people are alike, neither will be their routines! Below are some common suggestions on creating a perfect routine. Try them out for yourself and keep what you like, leave what you don’t!

Low/Dim Light

Nothing quite sets the mood for sleep like low, dim lighting, especially if you spend most of your day under florescent lights. Once it’s dark outside, you won’t find n overhead light on in my house. We instead exclusively use our salt lamps for lighting. You can try salt lamps, small tinkle lights, or even candles!

Quiet Time

Silence. It’s a beautiful thing. Try to keep noise at a minimum. That includes turning off the TV and talking in a calmer, gentle voice. This is also a great time to read a book, journal, meditate, or reflect on the day!

Personal Care

Brushing your teeth, washing your face, brushing your hair, any sort of personal care that you do before you go to bed, include it in your routine here!

My Night Routine

It’s pretty simple. Once the sun is down, dim lighting is a requirement for me. If I have some extra work to do, I make sure I’m wearing my blue light blocking glasses,  so my body doesn’t think it’s 3pm. Then I’ll either read, meditate, or do some deep breathing. Finally, I’ll brush my teeth - using the automatic nightlight in the bathroom, not the overhead light! - brush out my hair, and get all snuggled up in bed! I truly enjoy my night time routine and look forward to it’s moment every day :)
